Women’s soccer to play two in Michigan

DeKALB | After back-to-back home games, the NIU women’s soccer team heads to Michigan for two more matches.

NIU (3-8-2 overall, 2-4 MAC) will take on Central Michigan in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. at 2 p.m. today. The Huskies then travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. to face Eastern Michigan at noon on Sunday.

“Both matches this weekend will be challenging for us,” head coach Marci Miller said. “But in the MAC, any team can win at any time. We have been playing well over our last four games and need to continue at that level.”

The Huskies start off with CMU (10-2-1, 3-2-1), fifth in the MAC. The Chippewas rank second in the conference with 24 goals. Last year in DeKalb the Huskies beat the Chippewas 2-0.

NIU will then travel roughly 137 miles to face Eastern Michigan (5-6-2, 2-4).

“Eastern Michigan is another good team and they beat Ball State, who is tied for second,” Miller said.

Eagles goalkeeper Monique Budani is top two in the MAC statistics for shutouts and saves. Budani will be tough to score against with a .90 save percentage.

The Huskies are tied with Eastern Michigan in the conference but the Eagles lead the overall series 7-2-1.

EMU is also unbeaten in the last seven meetings.
