DeKALB | The NIU women’s soccer team finally got the best of a team from Ohio Friday, but reverted back to its losing ways on Sunday.

NIU forward Kelly Mullany scored the Huskies’ only goal to defeat Ohio 1-0, giving NIU its first MAC win of the season Friday in Athens.

NIU then traveled to Akron to face off against Akron University (1-3, 8-3) Sunday. The game ended in a 1-0 loss for the Huskies.

The Huskies (1-3 MAC, 2-7-2 overall) out-shot the Bobcats 8-6. Leading in shots was Lisa Maier crediting three and Kelly Mullany and Karen Enockson each with two. Mullany scored in the 68th minute off a rebound shot from Thea Johnson. NIU goalkeeper Lindsey Curnock made two saves in the game.

The Huskies had not lost to Ohio (4-6, 2-1) in their last four matches with the Bobcats.

NIU then traveled to Akron to face off with the Zips. The game ended in a 1-0 loss for NIU.

The Huskies had the Zips (1-3, 8-3) out-shot 16-6 and 6-2 on shots on goal. Karen Enockson and Kelly Mullany led the Huskie offense with a combined 10 shots on goal.

The deciding goal was in the 53rd minute by Zips midfielder Christine Vacha, assisted by Adrienne Knox.

“I really thought we were the better team today,” Jobson said. “We played hard but the result was not in our favor and that’s the way the MAC is. Akron converted their opportunities and we did not.”
