Women’s soccer rebounds

DeKALB | As the regular season wraps up, the NIU women’s soccer team still has hope for the last spot in the MAC Tournament.
To keep that hope alive, the Huskies went 1-1 this weekend in DeKalb.
NIU (5-10-2 overall, 4-6 MAC) fell 1-0 to MAC leader Ball State on Friday. But the Huskies pulled out a dramatic 2-1 victory over Miami-Ohio on Sunday.
Against BSU, NIU only managed four shots on goal, which helped a lone goal by BSU’s (11-3-3, 6-2-1) Sarah Leibel in the 17th minute hold up for the victory.
“Our second half performance was tremendous,” Miller said. “We did a great job with making things difficult for Ball State.”
But the Huskies rebounded two days later against Miami-Ohio (7-8-2, 4-4-2).
NIU got the lead early with a goal by Kelly Mullany in the 12th minute.
But in the 68th minute the RedHawks tied the game at one, setting the stage for NIU freshman midfielder Lisa Maier‘s game-winning goal in the final minute of the match.
“This was a huge win for us; the biggest win of the year,” assistant coach Paul Jobson said. “The girls showed their determination and heart by scoring in the final 40 seconds of the game.”
