Film hurt by air ball cast
September 10, 2006
“Crossover” is a street basketball movie that pretends to have a plot. Although it sometimes succeeds, the terrible acting makes that null and void.
One of the most surprising things is that Wayne Brady manages to be a seedy nightclub owner, as well as the head of an underground street basketball league.
Many people are used to seeing him where as funny and very rarely menacing. This may have been the reason why every time he tried to act tough, it was hard to keep from laughing out loud.
The movie tells the story of two friends, Tech (Anthony Mackie) and Noah Cruise (Wesley Jonathan) and their trials with basketball, girlfriends, college and each other.
Leaving out that the acting in the movie was atrocious, the movie could have been interesting. Granted it was a movie about basketball, and sports movies tend to not require an actor to act too well.
But this movie could have been much better with a better-trained cast.
It was nice to see a sports movie that, theoretically, had a little character development — even if the actors could not portray it.
The parts of the movie where people actually play basketball were done quite well.
The extras used looked pretty good and some of the tricks they pulled were fun to watch, knowing that most people could never pull them off.
Overall, the movie is barely average, assuming people are not worried about good acting.
