Women’s soccer goes for 2nd win
September 14, 2006
DeKALB | NIU women’s soccer hasn’t had the winning edge in recent games, but their offense hopes to make that a different story this weekend.
The Huskies (1-3-2) will travel to Evanston to take on Northwestern (2-4-0) at 4 p.m. today.
The Wildcats are coming off a 0-1 loss to Ball State in which they had 13 shots on goal but were unsuccessful in finding the back of the net with any of them.
Despite the losing record, assistant coach Paul Jobson says Northwestern is not to be taken lightly.
“NU is a tough team,” Jobson said. “They have great ability as well as size.”
But the Huskies have had their own troubles lately. The team’s last two games were win-less battles. NIU tied Wisconsin-Green Bay 2-2 and lost to DePaul 3-2.
Jobson feels after the last two games that the offense and defense are on the edge of clicking with one another to create a better outcome.
The Huskie defense will have to be on top of its game if it wants to stop the Wildcat’s leading scorers Shannon Schneeman and Kelsey Hans. The duo each have three goals a piece this season.
With conference play right around the corner, Jobson hopes his team can use it this game as one last chance to improve.
“This is the last game before MAC play starts,” Jobson said. “There is nothing in particular that we’re working on. We’re constantly on a learning curve.
