Business majors meet employers
September 24, 2006
DeKALB | The annual “OMIS Meet the Firm” night will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington Ballroom.
The purpose of Meet the Firm night is to introduce students to companies that are looking for interns and/or full-time employees.
“Students get a chance to meet companies that hire our major,” said Sue Goad, academic advisor and internship coordinator for OMIS. Meet the Firm is looking for OMIS, business administration and computer science majors to attend, Goad said.
“Of course I won’t turn any major away,” Goad said. “Freshmen and sophomores are welcome, too.”
About 15 to 16 companies will attend the event, twice the number of companies that attended last year, Goad said.
The companies are looking for students with computer science and analytical skills. Goad advises students to dress in intern attire, bring their resumes and look ahead to see which companies will attend.
As far as turn-out, Meet the Firm usually averages 100 to 125 students each year, Goad said.
Goad’s final piece of advice is for all NIU students.
“Students have to be proactive,” Goad said. “There are many opportunities on campus, such as job fairs and internship fairs. If you miss them, you miss many opportunities that are too valuable to pass by.”
