Huskies look to end 4-game skid

DeKALB | For the second consecutive weekend, the NIU women’s soccer team will travel to Ohio for a pair of conference games.

NIU (0-2 MAC, 1-6-2) will look to end a four-game losing streak at 3 p.m. today in Athens against first-place Ohio. The Huskies will then travel about 175 miles to Akron to face the Zips at noon Sunday.

“We’ve been working very hard and getting better,” assistant coach Paul Jobson said. “It’s the MAC and you never know who can win. Anyone can beat anyone.”

The Bobcats are looking for a third-straight MAC win, while the Huskies are still searching for their first.

NIU will need to watch out for the Bobcat’s Amy Lower, the MAC player of the week last week. The freshman had an assist, as well as the game-winning goal in a match against then-undefeated Central Michigan.

Karen Enockson still sets the pace on offense for the Huskies and leads NIU with five goals and 11 points while Kim Schmitt has recorded two goals for four points.

After Friday’s match NIU will make its way over to Akron to play the Zips. The Huskies are 4-1 all-time against the Zips and will make their first trip to Akron since the 2003 season.

Despite starting 0-2 in conference, the Zips are off to their best start ever at 7-2.
