City reviewing plan for new business park

DeKALB | A corporate center or another large warehouse could one day populate the south side of DeKalb.

The DeKalb Plan Commission is reviewing annexation plans for a business park at Route 23 and Gurler Road and a housing development and town center area west of Annie Glidden Road, on both sides of Twombly Road.

At Wednesday’s meeting, potential plans were presented for the park, which would consist of small retail commercial lots and office buildings, with varying building sizes and connecting roads. Traffic studies are underway to estimate the traffic flow for the development.

Jerry Krusinski, president of Krusinski Construction Company, the company developing the plans, is hopeful these buildings will bring additional business to DeKalb.

“We are trying to attract users with high office demands,” Krusinski said. “We don’t know to what end users will want. We need to accommodate for a variety of needs.”

Plans are also being reviewed by the city from the Northern Trust company for housing areas west of Annie Glidden Road near Twombly Road.

Landscape architect Randy Brockway presented the company’s proposal to the plan commission Wednesday. A total of 2,301 living units were proposed, including condos, townhouses and neo-traditional town homes. The plans include churches, a town center, office spaces and a possible health care facility.

“We anticipate it will take 10 to 15 years to build the project out,” said Mike Papierski, senior vice president of Northern Trust. “We are looking forward to working with the city.”
