Slick roads lead to crashes

Monday’s rainy weather may have contributed to two major accidents involving SUVs in DeKalb.
Three cars collided at the intersection of Locust Street and First Street at about 11:30 a.m. A Dodge Durango and Ford Explorer trapped a woman in her Pontiac Firebird when the two trucks hit the car on opposite sides.
After being removed from the car, paramedics took the woman away in an ambulance and the intersection reopened at noon.
Earlier in the morning, another SUV crashed violently on the east side of DeKalb.
A man was taken at about 10 a.m. to the Kishwaukee Community Hospital after driving his SUV through a DB Hess Co. factory at 200 Peace Road.
The car was found three to four feet in the air suspended on one of the plant’s machines.
“We had to use high-lift jacks to stabilize the vehicle and remove the driver,” said DeKalb Fire Captain Joe Jones.
The car went through the building and there was extensive damage, Jones said.
Three different departments sent 21 firefighters to rescue the still-conscious driver.
