NIU football team to play Sunday night game in October on ESPN

The NIU football team will see more airtime than originally thought this upcoming season.

The Huskies Oct. 7 game at Miami(Ohio) has been switched to Sunday Oct. 8 and will be aired on ESPN at 7 p.m.

The game is the ninth for the Huskies that will be televised this season.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for our football program and for our entire university to be showcased on national television as the only college football game that evening,” NIU Athletic Director Phillips said.

Better make it a strike

Cubs fans will get to find out if NIU football Joe Novak and basketball coach Rob Judson can carry a tune July 19 at Wrigley field.

The coaches will toss the first pitch and sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch in the Cubs 7:05 game with the Houston Astros on the Superstation WGN.

The duo will also join Len Kasper and Bob Brenly in the booth for the bottom of the seventh inning.

Headed to Cape Cod

NIU pitcher Brandon Copp was added to the summer league roster of the Falmouth, Mass. Commodores of the Cape Cad Baseball League and joined the club Thursday.

The southpaw becomes the first Huskie to compete on the Cape, an annual summer destination for some of the top collegiate players in America and a league known for producing future Major League players.

As a freshman at NIU, Copp recorded 32 appearances and notched three victories.
