DeKalb police captured and arrested a man who allegedly stabbed someone at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday at McDonald’s, 545 E. Lincoln Highway.

Dean R. Beck, 34, of DeKalb, is being charged with armed violence and aggravated battery, police said.

Beck attacked the victim, a 34-year-old DeKalb resident, while he was seated at the restaurant, police said.

“The victim was stabbed once in the lower right of his back,” said DeKalb Police Lt. Jim Kayes.

Dean had not been sitting with the victim, he just showed up and without warning stabbed him, Kayes said.

Beck and the victim knew each other before the stabbing and a fight may have occurred the previous night that sparked the incident, he said.

Shortly after the stabbing, DeKalb police located Beck fleeing the scene on foot two blocks away, Kayes said.

Police recovered a household steak knife believed to be the weapon used, he said.

The DeKalb Fire Department transported the victim to Kishwaukee Community Hospital and he is expected to survive, Kayes said.

McDonald’s management declined to comment on the incident.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be involved in this incident, Kayes said.

Armed violence is a Class X felony and is punishable by six to 30 years in jail and a fine of $25,000.
