Peterson takes another honor
April 30, 2006
The awards just keep coming for NIU men’s basketball forward Todd Peterson.
The senior has been named No. 10 on the Northern Star’s Top 10 athletes of the season list.
Peterson was the leading scorer for NIU, averaging 11.8 points per game and 5.8 rebounds this season.
The forward was also named to the All-MAC team as an honorable mention.
Peterson made his reputation as a three-point specialist in his four years playing.
He broke the team record, hitting 232 three pointers in his career.
He became the 25th player in school history to hit the 1000-point milestone.
Peterson led the Huskies to the MAC West title and helped the team beat Western Michigan in Kalamazoo for the first time in 12 years.
“Individually, this was my best all-around year,” Peterson said. “I had a lot back problems last season. I did well the last seven games of the season. I played my best ball at the end of the year.”
The senior also said winning the MAC West title was a dream come true.
“One of my goals coming here is to win a ring,” Peterson said. “Its something this school can be proud of.”
Peterson’s skills on the court and leadership capabilities have led him to pursue a career overseas.
The senior signed with agent Mark Mayemura from Leb Two court side agency April 26 in hopes of finding a team in need of his services.
“I received offers from Spain,” Peterson said. “But I’m still waiting [to make] a decision. I probably will leave in August.”
