Fitzgerald addresses issues of legal profession

By Nina Gougis

Patrick Fitzgerald, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, will visit the NIU College of Law at 2 p.m. today in the Francis X. Riley Courtroom in Swen Parson Hall.

After taking office, Fitzgerald led significant investigations, including the investigation that uncovered political bribery and gift-giving under the administration of former Illinois Gov. George Ryan.

The event is part of the 13th Annual Francis X. Riley Lecture on Professionalism series that addresses issues in the legal profession.

LeRoy Pernell, dean of the College of Law, said he did not know what topics Fitzgerald will address during his presentation but hoped it would pertain to honesty and integrity, two principles he said are “essential to the lecture series.”

“I would hope he might be able to touch on challenges new attorneys may face in the practice,” Pernell said.

The even is free and open to the public.
