Huskies host Flashes, Bulls
April 20, 2006
It will be a tale of two teams this weekend for the NIU softball team, as it hopes to attain a .500 record within the MAC.
That‘s because NIU (15-19 Overall 3-7 MAC) will face the team with the most home runs and the second highest ERA in the conference.
The Huskies’ quest for success will begin with a doubleheader against Kent State (19-19, 7-4), at 1 and 3 p.m Friday.
The Golden Flashes have proved to be one of the most powerful teams in the MAC, as they have blasted 37 home runs this season, three short of the MAC record.
The Huskies will have to keep their focus throughout the weekend, as they will head back to the field to play against Buffalo (11-31, 2-8) on Saturday at 6 p.m.
The Bulls bring an ERA of 4.61, the second highest of the MAC, into the weekend competition.
Sophomore Michelle Nendza believes players cannot rely on the statistics as a prediction to the outcome of the game.
“Batting depends on the day and how you’re feeling,” the Palos Park native said. “I could go 0-4 against a pitcher with an ERA of 6, or I could go 4-4 against a pitcher with an ERA of 1, it just depends.”
The Huskies will round out the weekend home stand against the Bulls Sunday at 1 p.m.
