Play Back

Chett will play Otto’s Niteclub, 118 E. Lincoln Highway, Friday. Singer Luke LeFevre tells what he has been listening to.

Pearl Jam — “Animal” — “One of the most intense Pearl Jam songs. Makes you just want to pound your steering wheel and beat the crap out of someone.”

Smashing Pumpkins — “The Everlasting Gaze” — “This came out when I was a junior in college and I remember listening to it in the spring during a class and being so pumped I could not wait to get out of school.”

Sparta — “Assemble the Empire” — “This song is so intense at the end, really just made me love this band. The irony of the crazy guitar part at the end with the lyric of ‘Slow Down’ being screamed over the top.”

Soundgarden — “My Wave” — “The beat at the beginning is so great once the drums come in. Has an awesome groove.”

Interpol — “The New” — “The solo at the end of this song is just one note being bent over and over again and it feels like a psycho killer is about to attack.”

Sparta — “Syncope” — “The saddest song I have ever heard that did not have any lyrics. I like mix tapes to have dueling themes or feelings. This would be the middle of the two parts.”

Nada Surf — “Blonde on Blonde” — “This song makes me feel like I am walking through a mall in slow motion while everyone around is going a thousand miles an hour and I am totally cool with it.”

Wilco — “Far, Far Away” — “The coolest love song ever, they are hard to write, without getting cheesy, but Jeff Tweedy did it.”

Pedro The Lion — “The Fleecing” — “The chorus to this song is what makes it great — I can’t say it like I sing it, I can’t sing it like I think it, I can’t think it like I feel it, and I don’t feel a thing.”

Neil Young — “My My, Hey Hey” — “Because rock ‘n’ roll will never die.”

U2 — “Please” — “You have to listen to the live version from the 1997 Mexico City show. This is during the underrated pop era when Bono and company did not care what anybody thought.”

Pearl Jam — “Indifference” — “The best way to end a mix tape, show or whatever. It calms you down without letting you forget things you’ve gone through.”
