A telephone solicitation scam appeared in DeKalb this week with the suspects posing as local firefighters.

DeKalb firefighters are not making those phone calls, DeKalb Fire Department officials said,

The fire department stated it has received several reports regarding telephone solicitations being made to DeKalb residents on behalf of local firefighters in a recent press release.

DeKalb Fire Chief Lanny Russell and Mike Thomas, president of the firefighters union local 1236, said both of their organizations are not involved with these solicitors.

People who receive similar solicitations are recommended not to make any donations.
