February 27, 2006
The DeKalb Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred early Friday morning when a squad car struck a student crossing Annie Glidden Road.
The student, Joseph P. Fricilone, 22, of Homer Glen, crossed Annie Glidden Road going eastbound on the south side of the road.
“The car was not responding to an emergency,” DeKalb Police Lt. Jim Kayes said.
Fricilone had been walking with two other people who did not cross the intersection and told police Fricilone had crossed against the signal.
Fricilone had been drinking and was reported to be intoxicated, according to the police report.
The squad car tried to swerve to avoid collision with Fricilone but still struck him with the driver’s side bumper and mirror.
“The officer involved is not known as a lead foot,” Kayes said.
The DeKalb Fire Department arrived on the scene and took Fricilone to Kishwaukee Community Hospital with injuries.
