Apple brings demo to University Bookstore
February 22, 2006
Twenty-five thousand students. Impossibly close. iUniversity Bookstore?
Apple, the company responsible for iPods, iMacs and everything starting with a lower case i, is setting up a demonstration center in the University Bookstore in the Holmes Student Center today.
The demo center will be located across from the supplies desk on the first floor of the bookstore.
Don Turk, manager of the University Bookstore, said the demo center will have an iMac and some iPods on display.
“Student feedback will determine what we will or will not carry,” Turk said.
Apple and the University Bookstore plan to get a feel of what students want to buy and gradually introduce more products.
Some products will be available for purchase in the store while others can be ordered online.
When the store opens it will have the smaller model iPods in stock, including the new 1 gigabyte iPod Nano.
The video iPod and Apple software may eventually be sold at the bookstore.
Students can use Apple’s Educational discount on products.
The demo center will not provide any repair services but can advise students on what to do if anything goes wrong with an Apple product.
Apple representatives will be giving away promotional items.
Apple has been planning to put a store in DeKalb for about five years according to Turk.
“The University Bookstore was chosen because it is a central part of campus,” Turk said. “Apple wants to reach as many students as possible.”
