Structure fire causes $3,000 in damage

The DeKalb Fire Department was called at 4:14 p.m. Saturday to 823 W. Lincoln Highway for a structure fire.
A strong odor of smoke was reported to be coming from an apartment.
Arriving units found an apartment with heavy smoke inside. Upon entering, Engine Companies found smoke coming from the bedroom area, where bedding was left in contact with an electric baseboard heater.
Fire fighters rapidly put out the fire with fire extinguishers and ventilated the area.
A Fire Prevention officer was on the scene to help occupants and total damage was estimated at about $3,000.
