Sigma Pi fraternity may face suspension
February 7, 2006
Police issued several citations for underage drinking at the Sigma Pi fraternity house early Saturday morning.
It started when the DeKalb Police Department received a battery report at the Sigma Pi House, 1114 Blackhawk Road, at 1:26 a.m.
Upon arrival, police spoke with the victim, who said he was jumped by four or five people.
While police investigated the battery, it was also discovered there was a large underage drinking party at the same address.
Police issued 12 drinking citations to underage people present, including the victim.
Two senior members, Mark T. Dabbert, 21, of 1114 Blackhawk Road, and Brandon C. Helms, 23, of the same address, were given citations for allowing minors to drink alcohol.
“Potential ramifications range from probation to suspension of rights and privileges as an organization,” said Brian Hemphill, vice president of Student Affairs.
“Other than that, it’s too early to say; it’s still under investigation,” he said.
