Volleyball hosts bags tourney Saturday
February 23, 2006
Take two wooden boxes, six bean bags and four students and you get a college past time — bags.
While bags is popular, it tends to become hard to play when Mother Nature turns off the heat and lets the weather become not so pleasant.
But there is way for all bags enthusiast to get their game on this weekend, as the NIU volleyball team will be hosting a bag tournament Saturday.
But why bags?
“We were just trying to find something different from the traditional golf outing,” coach Ray Gooden said. “We realized that people play bags and figured we’d try it out.”
There will be cash prizes awarded to tournament winners. The remaining proceeds will help cover the cost of a Spring Break tour to Austria and Slovenia for the NIU volleyball team.
“I think it’s going to be a great [trip] for our group to gain experience and bonding,” Gooden said. “The volleyball will be different there but a good different as we will learn a new style.”
