“Infinite Crisis,” D.C. Comics

By Matt Lee

When DC Comics said “Infinite Crisis,” which has taken over nearly every DC title, completely would change the DC Universe, no one could have known how true the statement would become.

Next week, in an incredibly bold move, the DC Comics universe will jump ahead one full year.

At this point, it is still unclear why DC would make such an unprecedented move, but it’s more than likely that a few of the reasons behind the jump will be made clear when “Infinite Crisis No.5” hits comic stands in March.

The cover to No.5 shows the current Superman taking on Earth-Two Superman, and implies the outcome of the issue could shed some light on the direction in which the “Infinite Crisis” crossover may be headed.

In the buildup to the battle between the two supermen, fans have witnessed the current Superboy, Connor Kent, nearly being beaten to death by Earth Prime Superboy, while DC’s most famous villain, Lex Luthor has been impersonated by Alexander Luthor Jr. from Earth-Three.

And while Alex Luthor plots to recreate Earth-Two, the current Lex Luthor plots to take control of Connor Kent with the intentions of one day using him against the rest of DC’s heroes.

After the throw down between the two supermen and the ending of “Infinite Crisis No.5,” every DC title will shift ahead one year.

In order to document the events taking place in the year-long gap, DC will launch “52,” a weekly series starting in May.

“52” will reportedly focus on six different stories and involve several different characters.

It’s obviously too early to tell which characters will be most affected by the one year jump, but so far, a few characters are expected to receive some creative makeovers.

Other characters are expected to have refreshed and larger roles.
