Pop Quiz

1) In a given semester you:

a. Overload your schedule with every major class you can get into.

b. Take half major classes, half gen-eds.

c. Stick with all gen-eds.

2) How often do you see your major professors?

a. They are coming over tonight for pizza and margaritas.

b. At every class.

c. Maybe once a month.

3) Your professors characterize you as:

a. The front row head nodder who answers every question with vigor.

b. Someone who regularly attends class.

c. The kid who never shows up to class and then wants leniency on due dates.

4) You do your homework:

a. Immediately after class, in the library.

b. The night before class or occasionally that morning.

c. Never.

5) Over Winter Break you:

a. Studied full time to impress your professors on your return.

b. Did some Internet research about your major.

c. Forgot you had a major.

6) Your major is leading you to:

a. More school.

b. Your dream job: money, power and an exciting career.

c. Lots of money, but the most painfully boring career you can imagine.

C = 1 point

18-15 pts. All right, we get it, you love your major. You should be proud of working so hard, but you may want to tone it down a bit. Life is more than work, and it’ll pass you by if you’re not careful.

14-10 pts. Don’t worry, you’re doing just fine. You have mastered the balancing act of college life and work. You hopefully will graduate with few regrets and go on to a career you will enjoy.

9-6 pts. It’s time to step out of your denial or you may regret it. Your major just isn’t right for you. Companies don’t want to hire unmotivated employees. Do yourself a favor and get out now; you will be much happier for it.
