Not quite a ‘Monster’ to us

Charlize Theron may have won an Oscar, but that doesn’t stop her from making futuristic action flicks. Weekender caught up with the actress in a round table interview to hear about her experiences on the set of her new film “Aeon Flux,” and her opinions about the story’s relevance in our modern world.
“I sometimes did not think of this as a futuristic film at all. It deals with issues that I think we are dealing with right now, and if we do not pay attention to them, we will be dealing with the final product of what “Aeon Flux” deals with 400 years in the future. So maybe we can learn something.”
– On whether she thinks the themes of “Aeon Flux” comment on our current political situation.
“I had herniated a disk in my neck doing a back handspring and it was just an accident. It was early morning, there was some dew on one of the surfaces that we were working on and I was just rehearing and I slipped and landed on my neck. But I am completely healed. I am completely fine and it is just one of my whirlwinds on that film.”
– On her reported accident on the set of “Aeon Flux.”
“You cannot compare a film like “Aeon Flux” to “North Country” or “Monster.” I mean they are different genres and you have to celebrate them for that and it does not make one easier than the other. I mean “Aeon Flux” was one of the hardest films I ever had to make.”
– On making a so-called “lighter” film.
“My regulation is very simple and I got very lucky early on in my career that I got this in my contract and I think I was one of the first people to get this …I see the film and if I feel that it services the story then that is when I kind of approve it.”
– On her contract clause for nude scenes.
“I became a gymnast on this film which was something I had never done before and I have a very athletic background. So that was a huge interest for me [ … ] to kind of go and push my body to those limits to actually learn the skills.”
– On preparing physically for the role of “Aeon Flux.”
