Sycamore police have arrested a Maple Park man and charged him with aggravated kidnapping, armed violence and armed robbery in connection with a robbery and abduction which took place Saturday morning at the Clark Gas Station, 1655 Sycamore Road.

Sycamore Police Chief Dale Vesta said police arrested Richard L. Adams, 29, 4375 County Line Road, Maple Park, on Sunday morning.

Sycamore police received a 911 call at approximately 7:30 a.m. Saturday. The caller said the gas station was open but there was no attendant present.

Police arrived on the scene and found that an undetermined amount of cash had been taken and the attendant was missing.

A description of the vehicle involved was then given out to the news media, along with a request for community assistance.

Vesta said the Geneva police department located the gas station attendant in the area of the Geneva train station Saturday evening.

The victim was transported back to DeKalb County by Sycamore police.

Adams was located at the Chicago Americana Hotel, at the corner of North Avenue and Manheim Road in Stone Park, with the help of the Stone Park police department.

The Sycamore police department, with the assistance of the Stone Park police department, subsequently charged Adams and transported him to the DeKalb County Jail, Vesta said.

Adams appeared before a DeKalb County Circuit Court judge, who set bond at $750,000. Adams has not posted bond and remains in jail.

When a person is convicted of different felonies, the sentences run concurrently, DeKalb County States Attorney Mike Coghlan said. Therefore, if Adams were convicted of all three crimes, the maximum penalty would probably be 30 years.

Coghlan said the penalty for aggravated kidnapping is up to 15 years. The penalty for armed violence is upto 30 years, and the penalty for armed robbery is between six to 30 years.
