Police search for robbery suspects
November 8, 2005
The DeKalb Police Department is investigating a series of strong-arm robberies this weekend.
A suspect attacked an NIU student at 2:11 a.m. Friday on the 800 block of Annie Glidden Road while walking to the NIU residence halls from Greek Row, said DeKalb police Lt. Jim Kayes.
The suspect knocked the victim down and stole her purse, Kayes said. He got away in a car waiting for him nearby.
The victim was not injured, police said.
The suspect is a black male, 6 feet tall with a thin build, Kayes said.
The suspect’s car is a Ford Mustang or a similar style car that is dark in color with a tan top and was last seen heading east bound on Crane Drive, Kayes said.
The other incident occurred at 3:03 a.m. Saturday on the 1000 block of W. Hillcrest Drive.
After engaging in a conversation with the three suspects, the victim was attacked, beaten and robbed, police said.
The suspects took the victim’s cash and fled southeast, police said. The victim was not seriously injured.
The suspects are three black males. The first suspect is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, 150 pounds and wearing a dark blue jacket with light blue sleeves. Suspect number two is described as 6 feet tall, 150 pounds and wearing a dark blue denim jacket. The last suspect is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, 150 pounds and clothed in a white puffy coat.
These incidents occurred in a similar fashion to the strong-arm robbery on Normal Road a few weeks ago, Kayes said.
The assailants approached on foot from behind and either knocked the victim down or just robbed them, Kayes said.
“We have some leads that point to somebody,” Kayes said.
In a separate incident, University Police are preparing to make an arrest in a Nov. 2 robbery which occurred in front of Stevenson North towers.
A person bought a necklace from the suspect, Larry Nelson, said UP Lt. Matt Kiederlen.
Nelson then tried to get the necklace back but the victim refused, Kiederlen said. Nelson ripped the necklace off the victim’s neck and took it.
A warrant has been issued for Nelson’s arrest on charges of robbery and theft, Kiederlen said.
Separately, the DeKalb Police Department is close to arresting a suspect involved in the car burglaries Thursday night.
A suspect has been identified, and charges for a warrant are being drawn up today, Kayes said.
