Men’s basketball hosts first exhibition

Rob Judson got a glimpse of how his team will compete last weekend in a scrimmage against Loyola.
The NIU men’s basketball head coach will get another look today in the Huskies’ first exhibition of the season against Benedictine University at 7:05 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
The Huskies scrimmaged with the Ramblers last weekend at the Convo for 50 minutes in the morning and then again for 40 minutes in the afternoon.
“We had everyone play a lot more than they would in an exhibition,” Judson said. “That was real good for us.”
However, the scrimmage was missing one element today’s exhibition will include: the fans.
“The advantage of having exhibitions is that you have the fans behind you,” Judson said. “It’s a great trial run for your regular games.”
The Huskies, who finished last season with a 11-17 overall and 7-11 MAC record, lost graduated senior Johnathan Byrd and offseason transfers Frank Clair and Paige Paulsen, but will add several new faces to their lineup.
Ryan Paradise, Craig Reichel and Ben Rand all will play after redshirting last season. Incoming freshman Quintan Lipkins also may be added to the mix.
“It’ll be good for them to be out on the court and get some minutes under their belts,” Judson said of last year’s redshirt players. “The other guys gained a ton of experience last season so we’ll be looking to them for leadership early on.
