Broken water main slows traffic
October 19, 2005
A broken water main Wednesday reduced west-bound traffic on the 800 block of Lincoln Highway to one lane through the morning and afternoon.
Bryan Faivre, assistant director of the DeKalb public works-water resources division, said the call came in around 9 a.m.
As soon as Faivre got the necessary information about the locations of utility wires and telephone cables, his team started to work on fixing the problem.
“Lots of things are in the way,” Faivre said. “So it’s taking a little longer to repair.”
The city shut off the water on the 800 block of West Lincoln Highway while repairs took place.
Businesses like McDonald’s, 805 W. Lincoln Highway, had no access to water during that time.
There have been breaks around this section before, Faivre said. “It’s not uncommon for us to be out there.”
