Police search for suspect in third White Hen robbery

By CHELSEA IRVING

DeKalb police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Friday at the White Hen Pantry, 802 S. Fourth Street.

Police reports indicate a subject entered the convenience store at about 1 a.m. Friday and demanded money from the cashier.

The subject showed the cashier he was armed by displaying a screwdriver.

After obtaining a small amount of cash, the suspect fled on foot in a southeasterly direction.

DeKalb Police Sergeant Jim Kayes described the subject as a black male in his twenties, about six feet tall, weighing approximately 165 pounds.

The suspect had a crew cut, dark hair and dark eyes. The man was wearing a white T-shirt, gray shorts, white socks and was not wearing shoes, Kayes said.

He said the investigation is continuing, but there have been no new leads since Friday.

The White Hen Pantry was robbed twice last month. However, Kayes said this robbery has not been linked to the other two.

The other two robberies occurred under different circumstances. In each of the other cases, the suspect did not display a weapon. Instead the thief implied he had a weapon by showing his hand covered with some type of material.

At the time of the most recent robbery at White Hen Pantry, police had not arrested anyone in connection with the previous robberies.

Anyone who may have information about the case should call the DeKalb Police Department at 756-1421.
