Nickelback: All the Right Reasons

By Matt Lee

Nickelback, the Canadian alternative rock group that is considered somewhat pop-ish, never fails to deliver an album containing at least one song that will inevitably be one of the year’s most overplayed.

Since the release of its albums, “Silver-Side Up” in 2001 and “The Long Road” in 2003, Nickelback, driven by lead singer Chad Kroeger, has scored hits, including “How You Remind Me,” “Too Bad” and “Someday.”

In 2005, the story is no different. Already, “Photograph,” is on the way to becoming one of the year’s most popular rock songs. Besides the soaring single, there are many other potential hits to be had on the new album. “If Everyone Cared” and “Far Away” are two of the album’s slower and more personal songs, which the group has fallen into a habit of producing, and will no doubt be considered potential hits.

Other songs, including “Follow You Home” and “Side of a Bullet,” show the metal side of Nickelback. These songs are the group’s tribute songs to the late Pantera and Damageplan guitarist, “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott.

Overall, Nickelback has not only made an album worth releasing, but it is considered one of the year’s most well-rounded and complete. Each song shows a different side of Nickelback, which is why the band continues to gain popularity and momentum with each album.
