Men use pretend gun in robbery
October 4, 2005
DeKalb police are investigating an aggravated robbery that occurred at 2 a.m. Friday morning along the 600 block of Normal Road.
“We are following a number of leads,” DeKalb Police Lt. Jim Kayes said.
Kayes said the case is not related to the armed robbery of a man by two subjects late at night Aug. 29 in front of Jewel, 1320 Sycamore Road.
Two girls walking south on Normal Road were followed from behind by two men, Kayes said.
The men ran in front of them and then announced the robbery, Kayes said. The robbers did not display a gun but one held his hand in his pocket and stuck it out to simulate a gun.
“A pretend gun is not armed robbery, it’s aggravated robbery,” Kayes said.
The robbers took the victims’ purses and cell phones, Kayes said. They were not hurt.
Aggravated robbery is a Class 1 felony and can be punishable from four to 15 years in jail, Kayes said.
The investigation is ongoing, Kayes said.
