Goletz makes stellar return
September 28, 2005
NIU goalie Steve Goletz was nominated for MAC Player of the Week after back-to-back shutout victories. After missing two matches with a concussion, the Downers Grove-native stifled the opposition and improved his goals-against-average to 0.66 per game.
A mere four goals have crept by Goletz all year, and NIU has yet to lose a game when the senior keeper minds the net.
Bowling Green forward Omari Aldridge took the award after scoring four goals in three games.
DEFENDING THE HARDWARE
The NIU women’s golf team wants to defend its team and individual titles at the Huskie Classic Sunday and Monday at Whisper Creek Golf Club.
“I’d like to see us keep the team and individual titles again,” coach Pam Tyska said.
Junior Lisa Bailey returns to defend the individual-low score title of 157 that she posted last year. As a team, NIU rolled to the title last year when they beat Cincinnati by 23 strokes.
The 21st installment of the tournament is a 36-hole competition, and features 10 teams. A title defense won’t be easy. NIU is expected to face stiff competition from Northern Iowa and Butler University.
BACK ON TRAIL
The NIU cross country team will return to action Friday at the Loyola University Lakefront Classic at 10:30 a.m.
