Tickets for the upcoming 311 concert will go on sale 10 a.m. Saturday. The band will play Nov. 6 at the Convocation Center, 1525 W. Lincoln Highway.

Students can buy tickets at a reduced price of $29 at the Convo Center and Holmes Student Center box offices by presenting their NIU OneCard. Tickets may also be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone, 312-559-1212, according to a press release from the Convo Center.

Students may purchase two tickets at the student rate; additional tickets must be bought at the general public price of $34, according to the press release.

Reserved seating is available starting Saturday and general admission will be available until the tickets sell out, said Kevin Selover, Convocation Center

marketing manager.

The Convo Center contacted 311 in early August, Selover said. He was pleased 311 decided to hold a concert at the Convo after years of receiving e-mail requests for the band from students.

Selover said scheduling acts at the Convo can sometimes be a difficult task.

“We’ve put in about 20 offers on bands this semester and sometimes we don’t line up with their tour dates or some other issues. But I think that [with getting 311 and other bands such as 3 Doors Down], this semester will be one of the best semesters for the Convocation Center since its opening,” Selover said.

Matt LeCompte, a freshman accountancy major and member of the www.facebook.com club “311 Fans,” said he plans to bring a group of at least seven guys and two girls to the concert.

“I was very surprised when I heard they were coming. Now that they are coming this year, we have to bring them back every year following this,” LeCompte said.

Junior communication major Andrea Gruger, who considers herself a 311 fan, also is excited by the upcoming concert.

“My favorite song by 311 is ‘Love Song,’” Gruger said.

The band’s 1995 album “311” went triple-platinum. Its latest album, “Don’t Tread on Me,” landed in the Top Ten on Billboard charts after its release in August.
