‘Crash’
September 21, 2005
This drama/mystery tells the story of 10 L.os Angeles residents with different racial backgrounds, who each receive and project their own individual stereotypes about race. The magic of this film is the clear depiction of how these stereotypes are formed, and also how difficult they are to deconstruct.
The characters are incredibly relatable and their struggles are sincere. Each separate drama is interwoven into a gestalt of a story that offers something for everyone – and probes a bit deeper into social issues than other films of its kind.
The suspense and tension mount as the ideas become deeper and more complicated. Although the dialogue is more intense than the action, one wouldn’t know it by the impact this film evokes. Intriguing and powerful, “Crash” is a must see. Let’s hope Oscar notices.
