Vandalism investigated
April 3, 2005
An unknown number of suspects vandalized at least a dozen vehicles in DeKalb this weekend.
DeKalb police are investigating a number of reports of criminal damage to property from Augusta Avenue, Pappas Drive, Locust Street, Quail Road, Highpointe Drive, Larson Court, Cambridge Court, Jasmine Court, College Avenue and Varsity Boulevard.
Vandals threw a number of objects at vehicles, including eggs, rocks and beer bottles. Other vehicles had mirrors knocked off, tires slashed and paint scratched off.
One car had its rear window and trunk lid smashed with a sign from a pizza delivery vehicle.
There were reports of a large party in the Knolls neighborhood that may be linked to the incidents, said DeKalb Police Sgt. Jason Leverton, but the number of locations make it difficult to determine if they are all related.
Leverton said if caught, suspects would face charges of criminal damage to property, although if the damage was more than $400, the charge would be moved up to felony criminal damage to property.
