April 20, 2005
Many art galleries in conjunction with NIU have upcoming openings.
NIU’s Art Museum, 215 W. Superior, 3rd floor, Chicago, will host “Research,” a new exhibition grounded in installation and performance-based artwork that will be open through May 21.
“The reception opened with white wine and a turnout of [more than] 150 people,” acting museum director Heather Weber said.
At the NIU Art Museum at Altgeld Hall’s Rotunda Room, two galleries will be open through May 14.
“Unseen/Unnoticed/Unspoken” features the recent work of Fulbright scholar and NIU alumna Rebecca Keller and explores the duplicity of word and image.
“Super Spatial” shares the Rotunda Room and features work by NIU fine arts graduate Thomas Skomski. Skomski will give a presentation at 7 p.m. today at the Art Building, Room 111.
Both exhibits can be seen from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and noon to 4 p.m. on the weekend.
The work of Michael Zasadny, an undergraduate sculpture student, will be featured in “Superlative Exposition,” an exhibit he curated with graduate sculpture student Bill Ray Edwards.
“Superlative Exposition” can be found at the DeKalb Area Women’s Center, 1021 State St.
Gallery hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. on Fridays or by appointment.
