Median to be built at Sycamore Walgreens
April 20, 2005
The DeKalb County Board passed a number of ordinances in a rapid succession of votes Wednesday.
Addressed during the meeting was the approval of construction of a concrete median in Sycamore at the Walgreens’ driveway.
The median will organize the traffic to lessen the hazard of pulling into Walgreens, said Pat LaVigne, chair of the County Highway Committee.
“We want to help people avoid getting into accidents,” LaVigne said.
A similar median was placed at the intersection of Barber Greene Road and Peace Road and it was highly successful, LaVigne said.
Another item approved was the annual senior services tax levy award, which pays money to a variety of county programs that provide a variety of services for senior citizens.
Among the recipients of the county funding, the DeKalb County Public Health Department received $25,000 for its services, the Family Services Agency received $122,000, and Meals on Wheels got $80,000.
Businesses submit proposals to the county offering a certain amount of their services and this program helps reimburse them, said Bob Rosemier, chair of the Health and Human Services committee.
The tax levy award was approved in 1996, Rosemier said. Meals on Wheels was one of its big supporters.
Most businesses get additional funding from outside of the county, Rosemier said.
The county board also approved the request to build a new Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John on a 15-acre plot of land at the northwest corner of Brickville and Motel roads in Sycamore.
The board also unanimously approved this year’s landfill license as well as the DeKalb County solid waste management plan, which is renewed every five years.
In other developments, Board Member Frank Van Buer said goodbye to his county board members before he becomes mayor of DeKalb.
