Student loves variety when dining

By Greg Feltes

Sok Bunthoeun So eats out … a lot.

The Ph.D. candidate in political science from Cambodia estimates he eats out at least 10 times a week. He said he doesn’t really care about atmosphere or service in selecting his dining establishments.

“They should have a wide variety, and the food should be authentic,” he said. “I don’t really care about having fun while I am eating out. I just want to eat.”

Here are So’s top 10 favorite places to grab grub in DeKalb:

10. Bakers Square – “I don’t even get dessert there because I am so full because the portions are so large. My stomach is stuffed every time there.”

9. Subway – “I’m not a Jared or anything, but their bread is really great. It reminds me of the bread from my country.

8. Steak ’n Shake – “I like the Philly Steak sandwich. Their fries aren’t that great and I really don’t eat them. I love the milkshakes.”

7. Applebees – “They have real good American food there. The atmosphere is good because you can actually hear yourself think.”

6. Burritoville – “I know. I know. I like their burritos. The place looks dingy, but the food is really great. I try and limit it to just the weekends.”

5. McDonald’s – “It’s easy and fast. It’s been around forever for a reason. Yum … Big and Tasty.”

4. Burger King – “I love the chicken Whopper. I don’t mind fast food, really. I’ll eat anything that tastes good.”

3. Thai Pavillion – “They have the kind of food that resembles what I like to eat most often. Their Thai pepper steak is really good.”

2. Pizza Hut – “I love their Buffalo wings. I don’t even go there for their pizza.”

1. China House – “It has tons of variety; not just Chinese food. It has different combinations. I love their crawfish. I don’t know why. I just do.”
