Expo sign-up nears end
August 26, 1993
Today is the last day for organizations to register for this years’ Student Association Organizational Expo.
Organizations interested in participating must sign up by 4:30 p.m. at the Student Association Office in the Holmes Student Center, south entrance second floor.
Student groups participating in the event are wide and diverse.
“We’re pretty geared up. A lot of people don’t get a chance to fly in small planes,” said Pat Bokbo, a member of the Flying Huskies. “Anybody with an interest in aviation is invited to come up and ask questions.”
SA Vice President Dave Gonzales said the expo is a great opportunity to promote organizations, “especially with new freshmen and transfers coming in. It will get them interested in new organizations.”
SA Public Relations director Anna Bicanic is planning the event.
“During the school year there are few opportunities for organizations to recruit new students. There will be food, a band, publicity, there’s no charge, minimal work, lots of people, prizes and coupons for the Center Cafe and Blackhawk,” Bicanic said.
Mike Augsburger of the Tae-Kwan-Do and Hap-Ki-Do Korean Martial Arts Club said, “People always feel intimidated to come up and ask questions. We try to present ourselves as kindly and modestly as possible.
“We’re the nicest people in the world,” Augsburger said. The club will do a demonstration at the expo.
The expo will consist of at least 103 organizations with tables set up in the MLK Commons and the HSC. It will take place from 9 to 3 p.m. on September 1. The rock band, as yet unnamed, is being booked by the Campus Activities Board and is scheduled to perform between 11 and 1 p.m. Food vendors will be there from 11 to 2 p.m.
Participating organizations are encouraged to check in on the day of the event in front of the information desk at the south entrance of the HSC.
Maps of the event and coupons for the Center Cafe and Blackhawk Cafeteria will be available for students at the table.
