Five arrested in relation to Feb. 9 home invasion

DeKalb police announced the arrest of five suspects believed to be involved in a Feb. 9 home invasion.

Police said Feb. 9 at about 11:12 p.m. six masked men, one carrying a handgun, two carrying pepper spray and at least one carrying a baseball bat, entered an apartment occupied by five NIU students on the 800 block of Edgebrook Drive.

Police said three of the victims were pepper sprayed, although none were seriously hurt or required medical treatments.

The victims told police they believed nothing was taken.

Dustin Ziegler, 17, of Sycamore, David M. Prahlad, 18, Everett B. Mitchell, 19 and Nathan D. Robinson, 20, all of DeKalb, were charged with home invasion on March 10.

A fifth suspect, Ricky D. Smith, 18, of DeKalb, was arrested the next day at 10:30 a.m. during a traffic stop in the 1400 block of DeKalb Avenue on a warrant for home invasion.

None of the suspects are listed as NIU students.

Police said additional arrests were pending.

Home invasion is a Class X felony punishable by six to 30 years in prison and a fine of $25,000.
