Train derails near Peace Road
March 24, 2005
The Union Pacific RailRoad near Peace Road in DeKalb was the scene of a train derailment early Tuesday morning.
Two locomotives and one stabilizing car loaded with rocks went off the tracks about 9:40 a.m., said John Bromley, director of public affairs for Union Pacific RailRoad.
None of the Union Pacific employees working in the area of the trains were injured during the derailment and there was minimal damage to the train tracks, Bromley said.
“In railroad terms the track damage was pretty minor,” Bromley said.
The damaged track was closed for about nine hours to facilitate repairs but caused little in delays because train traffic was diverted to the other track, he said.
There is no concern about any hazardous material and the cause of the derailment is under investigation, Bromley said.
