Dancers showcase women’s pride in program

As part of Women’s History Month, the NIU Women’s Studies Program will participate in a program called “Celebrating Women Through Dance.”

The Department of Kinesiology is sponsoring the performance, which will be held at noon Tuesday at the Altgeld Hall auditorium. Faculty and students from these departments will be performing. The show will include a variety of dances, including Caribbean, Latin and modern ballet.

“We’re just a bunch of women who love to dance and choreograph,” said Danielle Jay, associate professor in the physical education and dance education department.

The theme of Women’s History Month, chosen by the women’s studies program, is “Body Waves,” which represents the exploration of the relationship between body display and feminism.

Performers in “Celebrating Women Through Dance” are all members of the NIU dance community and have put the performance together themselves. All the dances were choreographed specifically for Tuesday’s show.

“We’re just celebrating women with what we love to do,” Jay said.

Admission is free, and all are welcomed to attend.
