Huskies fall short in the end

NIU guard Stephanie Raymond hunched over in disbelief.
The sophomore missed a free throw with 12 seconds that would have tied the game.
Six seconds later Raymond was denied a three-point attempt to tie the game in a 75-72 loss to Bowling Green on Senior Night at the Convocation Center Tuesday.
“We called a play for me to get a three off, but they covered me and I got the ball to Jamie [Wilson] – but time ran out,” Raymond said.
The Huskies (7-20 overall, 4-12 MAC) led 32-30 at the half, but couldn’t withstand a barrage of threes by the Falcons (7-20, 4-12).
Forward Liz Honegger and guard Ali Mann combined for 40 points and shot 7-of-14 from the three-point range for Bowling Green.
“I knew they would shoot better in the second half, but not that good,” said NIU coach Carol Hammerle of the Falcons’ eight second-half threes.
The Huskies shot 50-percent from the field including a 59.3 percent effort in the second half.
Raymond led the Huskies with 23 points while Wilson added 16 and 11 rebounds in her final game at the Convocation Center.
