Warrants issued for football players
March 7, 2005
DeKalb police issued warrants Friday for two NIU football players who used another football player’s identity to buy clothing, food and electronics.
Joseph Pomaranski, 19, originally of Bensenville, and Antonio Tribble, 21, originally of Riverdale, were charged with unlawful use of a credit card. Additionally, Pomaranski has been charged with false statement for purpose of procuring credit card, financial identity theft and two counts of forgery.
The incidents were first reported Monday.
“They are suspended,” said NIU football coach Joe Novak. “And will be until the incident is over.”
Pomaranski came on as a walk-on, while Tribble was recruited in the fall.
The police allege Pomaranski used the identity of someone they knew to obtain a credit card, which was used by both men to make the purchases. He also forged documents forwarding the victim’s mail to a new address.
Forgery and unlawful use of a credit card are Class 3 felonies punishable by two to five years in prison and a $25,000 fine. False statement for purpose of procuring credit card and financial identity theft are Class 4 felonies punishable by one to three years in prison and a fine of $25,000.
