Students reflect on departed Sosa
February 7, 2005
He gone.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock (and apparently one reader was), you now know that formerly beloved Chicago Cubs rightfielder Sammy Sosa was traded to the Baltimore Orioles last week. Now that newspaper columnists and television pundits have weighed in, Sweeps thought it would be appropriate to hit the streets to give NIU students a chance to weigh in on the big deal.
It’s news to me. I’ve been busy this week. Really? It’s just their luck. They have all these great players who say they will retire as a Cub and then end up leaving over money.”

I think it’s a very good trade. He was a distraction in the clubhouse and hopefully with Sammy gone, everyone will be on the same page. I think they have a shot at the World Series.”

Seeing that I am a Sox fan, I am pretty excited. I was tired of him. You just don’t take off from work because you are mad. Also, the Cubs suck.”

He was a good thing for the Cubs. I think they will miss him next year. He was still a good player.”

I’m not a big baseball fan, but my friend is. Sosa has a really big head and he’s not as good as he used to be. I am happy for my friend’s sake.”
