Raymond tallies ten steals, women’s hoops still falls

By Jarrod Rice

The shooting struggles and inability to stop streaks continued for the NIU women’s basketball team Wednesday.

The Huskies fell 72-54 to host Loyola and have yet to shoot at least 40 percent in a game this season.

Loyola didn’t share the Huskies troubles from the field. The Ramblers were 11 of 20 from three-point range and shot 51 percent overall

Two straight buckets from sophomore Kristin Wiener helped the Huskies to a 6-0 lead out of the gate, but Loyola answered with a 12-point run of its own.

The Ramblers went on another run and scored 11 unanswered points at the end of the first half to take a 42-24 lead and put the Huskies away for good.

Wiener paced the Huskies with a career-high 13 points. Sophomore guard Stephanie Raymond chipped in with 12 points and 10 steals, which is the most for a Huskie since Leslie Pottinger in 1995 against Wisconsin.
