United Way develops tasting for charities
November 11, 2004
The Kishwaukee United Way will host its second annual fundraiser while bringing an extra touch of class to the dinner table.
At the “Taste of the Vine” wine tasting, guests can taste wines while learning how to pair wines and food.
The money raised will go to agencies the organization supports, such as Voluntary Action, Community Coordinated Child Care and RAMP Center for Independent Living. These charities provide DeKalb County services such as child care and aid for the disabled.
“Taste of the Vine” will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at South Pointe Center, 200 Gurler Road.
“There will be special sessions on how to pair food and wine, which is great when preparing holiday dinners,” said Dawn Littlefield, executive director of Kishwaukee United Way.
During the sessions, tasters will sample wine with lemons, salt and fruit to determine what wine goes with foods that are sour, sweet and salty.
Attendees will also get a chance to buy wines by the bottle or case. A silent auction will be held for several gift baskets containing a variety of treats like wine, meats and cheeses.
Black Tie Jazz Trio, a local jazz group, will play live music and B95’s Dave Bavido will emcee the event.
Premier Catering will cater the wine tasting. Guests will be served a variety of robust appetizers like cheeses, meats and pastries. They will then dine on fresh pasta.
Last year, the event attracted about 200 guests, Littlefield said.
“Annual fundraising allows us to give more money to agencies we support,” Littlefield said.
Advance tickets are available for $20 at the Kishwaukee United Way office, 115 N. First St. Tickets will also be available for $25 at the door.
