November 15, 2004
Police arrested a 26-year-old DeKalb bank employee Friday following a series of thefts at two local Fifth Third Bank branches.
Police said Travis Phillips, the Hinckley branch office manager, stole at least $7,000 from a Hinckley and DeKalb bank branch. No bank customers suffered losses, police said.
After conducting an internal audit, Fifth Third Bank investigators contacted DeKalb police and DeKalb County Sheriff’s police with suspicion of theft.
The two police departments began a criminal investigation into thefts occurring at the Hinckley branch, 101 W. Lincoln Ave., and the DeKalb branch, 2707 Sycamore Road.
Police arrested Phillips, of 417 N. Second St., on a felony theft warrant. He was released Friday night after posting $10,000 bond.
Police are still investigating the case.
DeKalb police and Fifth Third Bank were unavailable for comment as of press time.
