Speech contestants shine with Unity in Diversity
November 17, 2004
The department of communication and the co-chairs of the Unity in Diversity speech contest would like to announce the winners of this year’s contest. The first place winner is Evan Kilgore. The second place winner is Sophie Hung. The third place winner is Erin Elizabeth Moran. Winners of honorable mentions are Nicole Caiafa, Alyease Jones and Josue Morales.
We would like to congratulate all of the COMS 100/100P students who participated in the preliminary round of the speech contest. The contestants’ willingness to share their experiences with a broader audience is a valuable service to the NIU community, as well as the greater society. Through the contestants’ voices, we can begin to develop acceptance, respect and understanding. Therefore, all the participants deserve praise and admiration.
Finally, our thanks are extended to the instructors of COMS 100/100P who assisted in preparing these students for the contest and their work as judges for the preliminary round. In addition, the final round judges, Ferald Bryan, Lois Self, Judy Santacaterina and the Rev. Mitchell deserve our heartfelt appreciation for their contribution.
