Residence halls need more sports channels
October 24, 2004
NIU is missing important television channels. It needs to add two channels to the list in the residence halls because it matches the interests NIU students have.
At the beginning of the fall semester, NIU students were hyped up about the Chicago Cubs and the Wild Card. NIU students who currently live in residence halls could not view every televised Cubs game. Residence hall residents, including me, only had the opportunities to see the Cubs play when WGN televised the games. However, we did not have any opportunity to view games televised on Fox Sports Net because the residence halls do not have the channel.
Besides the Cubs, the NIU football team is off to another awesome winning season. NIU students, including me, are currently hyped up about the way they have been playing. Almost every single NIU football game has been televised either by Fox Sports Net or Comcast SportsNet. Fox Sports Net and Comcast SportsNet also have an “Inside Huskie Sports” weekly show that runs every Thursday afternoon.
Where are the Fox Sports Net and Comcast SportsNet channels in the residence halls? It is unfortunate that residence hall students, including me, cannot see an NIU football game, especially a road game, on a channel that isn’t available in the residence halls. It is totally unfair that bars in DeKalb have Fox Sports Net and Comcast SportsNet while the residence halls don’t have these television channels.
Again, NIU needs to add Fox Sports Net and Comcast SportsNet to its television lineup in the residence halls. These channels represent NIU because they are always televising a weekly athletic show and the Huskie football games – whether it’s at home or on the road.
